A guided 3 star quality scramble of grade 1 taking in a narrow airy ridge to the summit of Helvellyn.
We can start off in either Glenridding or Patterdale depending on how busy the car parks are.
Both routes converge at the "Hole in the wall", from here there are great views of the cliffs of Helvellyn with Swirrel Edge on the right of Red Tarn and our route of Striding Edge on the left.
There is a choice of routes as we head along the edge, stick to the top of the ridge for the harder scrambling or take the easier path lower down.
There is then a short steep section before we arrive on the summit of Helvellyn at 950 metres.
On a clear day there are amazing views from the top in all directions.
Our usual descent route is down Swirrel Edge and past the shores of Red Tarn before we head over to the "Hole in the wall" and back down our route of ascent.
The average time for this route in good conditions is about 6 hours.
