Guided walks in the Lake District
Striding Edge to Helvellyn
A guided 3 star quality scramble of grade 1 taking in a narrow airy ridge to the summit of Helvellyn.

We can start off in either Glenridding or Patterdale depending on how busy the car parks are.

Both routes converge at the "Hole in the wall", from here there are great views of the cliffs of Helvellyn with Swirrel Edge on the right of Red Tarn and our route of Striding Edge on the left.

There is a choice of routes as we head along the edge, stick to the top of the ridge for the harder scrambling or take the easier path lower down.

There is then a short steep section before we arrive on the summit of Helvellyn at 950 metres.

On a clear day there are amazing views from the top in all directions.

Our usual descent route is down Swirrel Edge and past the shores of Red Tarn before we head over to the "Hole in the wall" and back down our route of ascent.

The average time for this route in good conditions is about 6 hours.

Prerequisite - Some summer hillwalking experience.

Price £40 per person. Maximum group size 6.

Sharp Edge of Blencathra

A guided 3 star quality scramble of grade 1 with a narrow knife edge on the way to the top.

We shall start off near to Scales and make our way around and above Mousthwaite Comb and up to Scales Tarn.

After a short break we then head up to and along Sharp Edge and up to the top of Foule Crag and then gently along to the summit of Blencathra at 868 metres.

There are tremendous views of the northern Lakes and across to Skiddaw.

There are various options for the way down but in keeping with the ascent of Sharp Edge we can descend Hall's Fell Ridge (a 2 star grade 1 scramble).

We continue down this ridge to near Gategill where we can return along the fell path to our starting point.

The average time for this route in good weather is about 5 hours.

Although we are not planning to use a rope, we will be carrying one, just in case!

Prerequisite - Some summer hillwalking experience.

If the weather is too severe for an ascent of Sharp Edge we can ascend by various other routes.

Price £40 per person. Maximum group size 4. Dates available - if you see a date advertised below then there are still places left on that walk.
